Morningstar: International, passive, bonds see inflows
The international-equity Morningstar category continued to
see strong flows in April, as reported in the Morningstar Direct U.S. Asset
Flows Update for April 2015. Of the $42.3 billion invested in
international-equity in April, $32.4 billion went to passive funds. Indexing is
becoming a mainstream strategy in the international space, and most April flows
went to foreign large-blend funds, particularly those focused on the European
market.
Taxable-bond funds continued to grow in April, and active
U.S.-equity continued to see outflows, with April seeing the largest outflows
since July 2014. Surprisingly, passive U.S.-equity also experienced outflows in
April, driven by SPDR S&P 500 SPY, the largest U.S. market-tracking ETF.
