All PR is good PR. Think again.

Don't tell your story to the news media unless you are knowledgeable on the issues, your story is fully developed and you've been through realistic practice interviews. Oh, and your PR pro who is guiding you in the process is happy with your results.

That's the lesson this unprepared college student recently learned. She is the national organizer of the Million Student March movement which is going on now. She tried to make the case to Fox Business Network's star-anchor Neil Cavuto that college students should have free education, forgiven college debts, and a higher minimum wage, all to be paid for by the wealthiest 1% of Americans.

Neil was respectful, but the results of the interview speak for themselves. She wasn't knowledgeable about anything besides her talking points and wasn't prepared to answer his questions. As a result, she wasn't credible as a face of the organization. Her poor performance is going viral. One newspaper writes, "She hadn't quite thought through the whole of her group's platform."

How could she have been better prepared? What lessons can financial professionals learn from this interview?
